Artist Statement
Before putting loaded brush to new canvas, my ambition is to show everyday scenes from a different viewpoint. To me there's an appeal in painting a fleeting moment of an everyday scene. I'm trying to paint slices of time that happen in the blink of an eye; scenes that are worthy of a longer, second glance. I look for compositions that show some kind of interaction between different elements. I usually work from photographs I've taken while out and about. I begin a painting by determining overall mood and applying the local colours of the light and shadows. When finishing the painting, final touches of contrast are added and flecks of colour that will sing and bring the painting to life. I am challenged by the idea of presenting the viewer with pieces of a visual puzzle to put together however they wish.
My current work concentrates on urban landscapes and explores metaphors.
